VibeQuirky

Artist Residence is for the group that rejected the big seafront hotel approximately three seconds into the planning process. Two Regency townhouses have been filled with original art, mismatched furniture, colour and bedrooms that all look slightly different — because apparently hotel rooms are allowed to have personalities after all.

More importantly, there are rooms where a group can genuinely stay together. The Big One sleeps six, Below Deck options can take larger groups and the Sea View Lookout Apartment gives you a separate double bedroom and bunk room. There are proper double/twin rooms too, so nobody automatically gets sentenced to sharing a bed because they replied to the group chat last.

Downstairs, Blake’s does excellent cocktails and has enough atmosphere that “meet in the bar at seven” feels like an actual plan rather than an admin instruction. There’s no dinner service currently, but in Brighton that feels less like a flaw and more like permission to go somewhere good.

Sleeping arrangements

  • Comfy Double/Twin rooms can be set with separate beds, making them the easiest option for two friends sharing without conducting diplomatic negotiations over one duvet.
  • The Big One sleeps up to six, while Below Deck rooms can accommodate larger groups of up to six.
  • Sea View Lookout Apartment has a double bedroom plus a separate bunk room. Apartments sit next door in a separate townhouse, so exact group layout and adult occupancy need confirming before sale.

Location

Artist Residence sits on Regency Square, directly opposite the i360 and about as close to the beach as you can get without finding sand in the bed. The Lanes, North Laine and central bars are all walkable, while Brighton station is close enough that staggered arrivals needn’t become a military operation. You’re central, but not wedged into the busiest late-night streets. The trade-off is classic Brighton: single glazing, weekend noise and the occasional seagull making its feelings known before breakfast.

Our room was an apartment style, and for a rainy weekend by the sea, it was absolutely perfect.
