Had a fab overnight stay at Malmaison Newcastle Upon Tyne for a birthday/retirement celebration.
Malmaison
The Quayside classic for first-night cocktails and rooms that don’t feel corporate. It’s a chain, but a nice one.
Malmaison is the Newcastle classic for a reason. It has the warehouse bones, dark interiors and big river views, but more importantly it feels like somewhere the weekend can actually begin rather than somewhere you abandon your suitcase before heading straight back out.
For groups, the room mix is genuinely useful. There are proper Standard Twins and Bridge View Twins, plus Double Double rooms with two double beds if sharing is the priority. Upgrade the bride and the suites get considerably more dramatic, with lounge space, big baths and some of the best Millennium Bridge views in the building.
Downstairs, the bar and brasserie make an easy first-night plan and the spa is there for anyone who insists recovery should involve more than an electrolyte sachet. Then you step outside onto the Quayside. Drinks by the river first; Diamond Strip decisions later.
Malmaison sits directly on Newcastle’s Quayside, opposite the Millennium Bridge and beside some of the city’s easiest first-night drinking territory. The BALTIC and Glasshouse are across the river, while Grey Street, the Bigg Market and the Diamond Strip are all reachable on foot or by a short taxi when heels win the argument. Central Station is around fifteen minutes away. It gives you proper Newcastle energy outside the door without putting the bedroom directly above the busiest late-night streets.
Features
Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 11am. The current public rate used for the calculator is £100 per room for two and should be refreshed against TAAP before publishing. If you want pre-drinks in the hotel bar, book the table rather than arriving with a large group and hoping the furniture reorganises itself.
