My sister and I stayed here for a weekend in June for her birthday. Really lovely, independent hotel. Very quiet cosy room with all the amenities.
The Bird
The Bath hotel for a hen that wants cocktails, colour and absolutely no clichés. Consider this a hen don’t.
The Bird is Bath doing maximalism properly. The 29 bedrooms sit inside a handsome townhouse overlooking the Recreation Ground, but inside it’s all colour, statement art, patterned wallpaper and rooms that very much refuse to behave like sensible Georgian bedrooms.
For groups, the compromise is the sleeping set-up. Most published room categories are doubles or kings rather than obvious multi-share rooms, so this isn’t the hotel for squeezing four into one bedroom. Where it gets much more interesting is downstairs: there’s a bar, restaurant, terrace and dedicated private-event space, and the hotel openly promotes celebrations for groups of friends.
It’s the sort of place Main Characters would choose when the hotel itself is part of the weekend, rather than somewhere you only return to at 1am. Drinks on the terrace, dinner downstairs and skyline views give the group somewhere to actually spend time together — just confirm hen acceptance directly before relying on it commercially.
The Bird sits on Pulteney Road, just across from Bath’s Recreation Ground and a few streets from the busiest centre. Pulteney Bridge, Great Pulteney Street, the Roman Baths and central restaurants are all comfortably walkable, while Bath Spa station is close enough for easy train arrivals. The immediate area is quieter and more residential than the core shopping streets, which is useful when everyone eventually wants sleep. You still get central Bath without feeling like you’ve checked into the middle of the Saturday-night foot traffic.
Features
The Bird is an older building and does not have a lift, so there are stairs to the bedrooms. Exact accessibility requirements should be confirmed with the hotel before booking.

Stayed in a dinky room (9A). Yes it’s small but perfectly formed. 10 minute walk to the centre. Good breakfast. Young, friendly and professional staff.
There were small touches like plenty of water freely available, a self service snack bar and coffee bar 24/7, beautiful decor, a very relaxing terrace for drinks.
The Bird fitted really well with our need to be within close walking distance of the city centre but away from the noise of late night activities.
