Sora is the one to book when York needs to feel slightly less medieval for a few hours. Seven floors up at Malmaison, it swaps cobbles for skyline views, sushi, robata plates and cocktails in a room that feels much more like the beginning of a night out.

The group tapas menus make it especially useful for hens because nobody has to spend half the evening negotiating individual orders. Saturdays add DJs and sax from 8pm, so dinner can move naturally into drinks without everybody immediately standing up and asking where they are going next.
