The Uncommon
North Shields | ££–£££ PER PERSON | Chef-led small plates + cocktails + natural wine
This feels like a London hotspot in the North — and that’s the whole point. Set inside Harbour House in North Shields, it’s worth flagging that this isn’t city centre Newcastle, but if your weekend has room for a coastal detour, it absolutely earns the trip. Green leather booths, brutalist edges, industrial chic interiors and a warm glow that makes you want to stay for one more. The spicy margarita has its own cult following, and the small plates are the kind of menu where everything sounds good and you end up ordering more than planned. Fried pickles with chive and dill mayo, corn ribs with smoked chipotle butter — globally-leaning, sharing-friendly, and genuinely brilliant.
Verdict: A little out of town, but worth it if you want a night that feels special without being fancy-fancy.

3SIXTY
Quayside | ££–£££ PER PERSON | Panoramic views + early dinner
26th floor views over the Tyne, a private room that was made for big groups, and at least one hen do in the vicinity at all times — which tells you everything about 3SIXTY. It’s not rowdy exactly, but it’s never going to be the quiet catch-up spot either. Drinks are pricey by Newcastle standards, but you get what you pay for up here. If you want value, the bottomless brunch at £54.95 gets you 90 minutes of unlimited cocktails and a 26-day aged rump steak. Last slot is 4:30pm, which is an early dinner — but with that much Aperol Spritz on the table, you’ll make your peace with it.
Verdict: Phones out, hair down, order the cocktail that matches the sunset.

Good to know: Private room available for bigger groups — worth asking about when you book. Aim for an earlier slot if you want the golden hour view without the price tag.

Victors
Quayside | ££–£££ PER PERSON | Modern Asian-inspired small plates + cocktails + wisteria terrace
Purple and pink wisteria hanging from the ceiling, chandeliers, pink plush swivel chairs at the bar, and views of the Millennium Bridge from the terrace — Victors is the prettiest restaurant on the Quayside and it knows it. Hamptons-inspired interiors, a glass wall between the bar and dining room so you can watch your cocktails being made, and a modern Asian-inspired menu of small plates and sushi built for sharing. The sourdough with a trio of butters is the right way to start, and the cocktail list is long enough to keep everyone busy. Weekend bottomless brunch runs Friday to Sunday — two small plates, one side, and 90 minutes of unlimited drinks for £45pp. For a midweek dinner, the set menu is two courses for £20 or three for £25, which is exceptional value for the room.
Verdict: Newcastle’s prettiest dinner booking. Come for the wisteria, stay for the cocktails.

The Botanist
Grey Street | ££–£££ PER PERSON | Sharing plates + cocktails + three-storey dome
Tucked at the top of Grey Street, The Botanist is one of those venues that stops you in your tracks the first time you walk in — a huge tree at the centre of the bar, a three-storey dome, and a terrace overlooking the city. It’s a chain, but one that genuinely earns its place on this list. The cocktails are incredible and the whole setup is built for groups who want atmosphere without having to work for it. It can be on the steeper side price-wise, but for the setting alone it’s worth it.
Verdict: The one where everyone stops mid-sentence when they walk in.

DOOD
Quayside | ££–£££ PER PERSON | Persian + Levant small plates + statement cocktails
From the same team behind Khai Khai, so you already know it’s going to be good. Across three floors of a beautiful Quayside building overlooking the Tyne, DOOD is warm, jewel-toned, and genuinely transportive — rich textiles, beautiful decor, and a buzzy room that manages it all without a single neon light or DJ. Just incredible staff and a space that makes everyone want to stay longer than they’re allowed to. The food is Persian and Levant-inspired: kebabs, mazeh, freshly baked breads, and a Persian wine list worth exploring. After, Tiger Hornsby is a five minute walk along the Quayside — one of Newcastle’s best cocktail bars, with live music most nights and DJs on Fridays and Saturdays.
Verdict: Book it for the room and the cocktails, stay for the food.

Good to know: Tables are 90 minutes at peak times — you’ll be told this on booking, so factor it in. Wine comes in a small glass or a bottle, no in-between. Book ahead for weekends; it gets rammed.

SANCO
Forth Banks | ££ PER PERSON | No-menu pizza roulette + cocktails
The concept is simple and slightly dangerous: sit down, turn on the little light at your table, and the kitchen starts sending out freshly made Neapolitan pizzas by the slice. Nobody tells you what’s coming. You keep the light on, the pizza keeps coming. Turn it off when you’re done — or when you physically can’t continue. Founded by Newcastle local Paolo Franchi, it’s authentic stuff: wood-fired, hand-crafted, ingredients imported from Italy. The room is industrial-luxe with an open kitchen, cosy lounge area, and cocktails that make turning the light back on feel inevitable. At £22pp for bottomless pizza, it’s also one of the best value nights on this list.
Verdict: A very fun concept when you lean into it. Turn the light off at your own risk.

Good to know: Maximum group size is 10. Groups over 6 need to email rather than book online — info@sancopizza.com. Weekday lunch offer runs at £16pp Monday to Thursday, 12–4:30pm if you want the chaos on a budget.

Mowgli
Grey Street | ££–£££ PER PERSON | Indian street food + swing seats
Only opened last year and already a hotspot, and once you’ve been, you’ll understand why. Set in a handsome listed building on Grey Street, Mowgli is a chain that doesn’t feel like one. The inside is a warm, twinkly world of fairy lights, birdcages, and swing seats that make you want to kick your feet. The menu is built for indecisive groups: everything arrives as it’s ready rather than in courses, so the table becomes a constant carousel of tiffins and small plates. Sharing is fine until it comes to the yoghurt chat bombs — for you and you alone.
Verdict: Twinkly, busy, and built for sharing. Just embrace the chaos.

Good to know: Ask for swing seats when you book — they’ll try to accommodate. Food comes out as it’s ready, not in courses, so don’t expect a traditional starter-main structure.

Babucho
Quayside | ££–£££ PER PERSON | New York-style Italian brasserie + Late Lounge
Nestled between the shopping district and the Quayside, Babucho is the one that transitions effortlessly from dinner to late night. Black velvet chairs, deep booths, chandeliers and twinkling tea lights — it’s glam without being intimidating, and the kind of room where a table of girls immediately feels at home. The food is rustic Italian with local touches: pasta, pizza, steaks — crowd-pleasing and genuinely good. But what makes it a strong girls’ weekend booking is the Late Lounge, which runs until 2am at weekends, meaning dinner doesn’t have to end when the plates are cleared. Staff remember your name, which sounds like a small thing until it isn’t.
Verdict: Dependable, lively, and very good for a dressed-up Quayside dinner that turns into one more round.

Angel’s Share
Jesmond | ££ PER PERSON | Self-serve wine + small plates + private hire
Worth the ten minute taxi from town — Angel’s Share is Jesmond’s newest wine lounge and a proper gear change from the Quayside crowd. Set in a former Boots building on Jesmond’s St George’s Terrace, it’s exposed brick, vintage furniture, and self-serve wine machines that let you try bottles not usually available by the glass. It’s a proper discovery spot: pour yourself something you wouldn’t normally order, share a cheese and charcuterie board, and let the evening find its own pace. Not a dinner-and-DJ venue — more a long, relaxed evening that nobody wants to end. The second floor is available for private hire if you want your own space.
Verdict: The wind-down dinner that somehow becomes the last one standing.

Good to know: Second floor available for private hire — worth asking about for bigger groups. St George’s Terrace is Jesmond’s main strip, so everything else you need is on the doorstep.

Aveika
Sandhill, Quayside | ££–£££ PER PERSON | Japanese small plates + sushi + late-bar energy
Not cool, certainly not collected, but absolutely does the job — and for a hen weekend or birthday booking, that’s exactly the point. Aveika is loud, neon, and feels more like a night out than a dinner, which is either a selling point or a reason to book elsewhere depending on your group. The pulled beef hirata buns are unreal, the chicken stir fry is genuinely good, and the chilli beef robata on the Saturday bottomless brunch is the reason to go back. Saturday late bottomless brunch runs 4:45–8:30pm at £49.95 — one brunch option, unlimited drinks, and the option to add sushi and small plates on top. Dangerous in the best way.
Verdict: Book this when you want sparkle and momentum, not a quiet heart-to-heart.

Good to know: Bar open Wed–Sun, closed Monday and Tuesday — check before you build your itinerary around it. This is very much a celebration venue, so don’t go expecting a locals’ spot.

Khai Khai
Queen Street | ££–£££ PER PERSON | Gordon Ramsay’s favourite curry
Gordon Ramsay called the Old Delhi Butter Chicken the best curry of his life. He’s not wrong. Set across two floors of a Grade II listed building on the Quayside, Khai Khai is as considered as the food — dark timber, emerald green marble, hammered copper and brass, and a corridor of mirrors that makes even the walk to your table feel like an event. Candlelit, always full, and buzzy in a not-so-in-your-face way. The food is regional Indian cooked over fire and smoke — nothing like your standard curry house. The pre-theatre menu at £22pp is an easy win for groups, same kitchen, without the menu debate.
Atmosphere ★★★★★

Hen-friendly ★★★★☆
Good to know: It’s popular and the best tables go early — don’t wing a peak Friday/Saturday. They also run chef’s feast-style options at times, which are ideal if your group can’t behave around menus.
